Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) - Eviction help for San Bernardino County residents

Eligibility & When to Apply         

 

 

This program helps to cover rental or mortgage costs for up to three months. However, due to limited funding, we are only accepting applications on the first Tuesday of the month, for the cities listed below. If you are not from one of the locations listed below, please do not apply. To apply, on the day applications are accepted, please return to this page and you'll click the "apply here" button.

Applicant Information & Eligibility

To be eligible, a tenant's household is obligated to pay rent on a residential dwelling and meet the following requirements:

  1. Be a resident of San Bernardino County, regardless of immigration status.

  2. One or more individuals within the household have experienced a loss of employment, reduction in household income, incurred significant costs, or experienced a financial hardship in the past 12 months and can provide supporting documentation

  3. Have unpaid rent owed to the current landlord in the past 12 months

  4. Current household income is at or below 200% of the 2024 Federal Poverty Guidelines

*Participants of Section 8 or public housing are not eligible to apply to this program.

 

Prioritization

 

Priority will be given to the applicants from households that meet the eligibility criteria below.  Applicants that do not meet the eligibility criteria will have to reapply at a later date.

​​​​​​​Applications will be selected based on our prioritization scale listed below. 

  • Households with minor children, seniors aged 65 and above or people with disabilities.

  • Households that are paying more than 50% of the total household income for rent each month.

  • Households that are at higher risk of becoming homeless include but are not limited to households with past due rent, a 90/30-day notice or a 3-Day pay or quit notice.

  • Households for whom up to 3 months rent will satisfy their entire debt for the unit they currently inhabit, or who have entered into an agreement to repay the remaining balance affordably.

 

Payment

 

The program will pay up to a maximum of 3 months of past due rent.  Financial assistance will only be payable to the landlord of the rental property.
